Facebook is one of the biggest websites today (as of writing). Not only that it is the leading Social Networking website, it’s grown so big I don’t think anyone seen this coming! With so many users the website is constantly growing and constantly changing, every so often Facebook changes something. Sometimes for the better and sometimes not so much. Regardless they are always aiming to improve but you can not please everyone. Facebook now lets you have custom tab designs. Something which was not available at first, this little feature is probably the best part of Facebook for designers, bands and companies. Why? It let’s you have a custom tab on your page with anything you want on it. In fact you can have more than one page tab if more than one is needed.
How it all works
It’s all possible thanks to iframes. An iframe is a piece of code which acts like a box, or a window if you will. It displays on your Facebook Page and pulls in content from another source such as your website or a page created specifically for your Facebook Fan Page. In order to do this you must have somewhere to host this file, just like a website! Due to this it means there are virtually no limits on what you can put on the page but please remember to stick to any terms and conditions that Facebook may have.
Things you can put on your Facebook Page Design
As mentioned above it’s just like a website you can put almost anything on your page ranging from photos, videos, java script, flash etcetera. This allows you to stand out from the default facebook looking pages and really do something good with your page. You can highlight the important factors of your business, band etcetera. If you are in a band then you can place music on your page for fans to listen to, this might influence them to ‘like’ your page and they may even buy your music. Hint Hint you could put a nice picture advertising your music under the track resulting in traffic to your website / itunes / amazon etcetera.
